Founder, Smart City Works and Former Assistant Secretary, US Department of Homeland Security

The Honorable David Heyman is a co-founder of Smart City Works, a new class of business accelerator, called a
business “actuator”, established to build and launch next-generation infrastructure companies to
improve the livability, operations, and resilience of cities. He is a nationally recognized thought
leader, national security expert, and former systems software engineer who has served in senior
positions in the private sector and in the government, to include the White House, US
Department of Energy, and most recently as Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security. His latest publication on global and cybersecurity is, “The Velocity of
Change: Global Threats, Moore’s Law and Securing the Future.”
